Snow can be seen on mountains in the Hakusan National Park even in the midsummer. Mt. Hakusan (8,800ft/2,700m), meaning "white mountain", has the highest peak in the mountain range of the park. Mt. Hakusan is one of the three major holy mountains in Japan along with Mt. Fuji and Mt. Tateyama.
At the foot of the mountain, there is a beech virgin forest and various alpine plants.
