National Parks
Ogasawara National Park (Tokyo)
Activities: scuba diving, whale watching, dolphin swimming
Ogasawara National Park consists of the Oogasawara (Bonin) Islands, located about 620 miles/1000km south of Tokyo, and the major islands Chichijima and Hahajima. There are a few existing stations for officials of Japan Self-Defense Forces, Japan Meteorological Agency and the Japan Coast Guard located in the Iou Islands.
Other islands of the park, such as the Mukojima islands, are deserted
Vacation resorts on the Chichijima and Hahajima islands offer scuba diving, whale watching, dolphin swimming and other exciting activities. Particular areas of these islands are home to endemic plant species which are protected with a great deal of effort.
