Chubu-Sangaku National Park (Niigata, Toyama, Nagano, Gifu)
Activities: rock climbing, camping, skiing
Chubu-Sangaku National Park is commonly known as the "Japan Alps" because of its similarity to the Alps of Central Europe both in landscape and in abundance of snow during winter time. The Japan Alps has more than 100 mountain peaks covered in snow including peaks over 9,800ft/3,000m such as Norikura, Hotaka, Yari and Tateyama. This park includes Mt. Hakuba, home to the XVII Olympic Winter Games in 1998 and considered to be one of the most famous ski areas in Japan.
